Southwest Florida Symphony Endowment Foundation
The Southwest Florida Symphony Endowment Foundation, Inc. was established in 2002 as a separate, not-for-profit foundation whose purpose is to build a significant and secure base of assets for the long-term financial support of our beloved Southwest Florida Symphony. The Endowment Foundation is managed by an independent Board of Trustees that accepts both current and planned gifts and provides appropriate investment stewardship.
As of June 30, 2016, The Endowment Foundation had total assets of $2,523,000, including $2,205,000 in the General Fund, $151,000 in the Van Sickle Fund, which is dedicated to providing grants to vocal music students to attend college, and $167,000 of Symphony funds managed for their benefit. Our goal is to increase total assets to $5 million by 2020.
Our Grant Policy for the General Fund calls for annual distributions to the Symphony in the range of 4% to 5% of total assets, and we have committed $105,000 for the current fiscal year. By increasing our total assets to $5 million, we could increase our support of the Symphony to a range of $200,000 to $250,000 per year, allowing the Symphony to further enhance their programs.
