Bowie & Glass: A Symphonic Tribute
From seemingly different musical universes, Philip Glass and David Bowie were mutual admirers for decades. Symphony No. 4 “Heroes” is the second of a now completed trilogy of symphonies that Glass has written based on the albums of Bowie. Not simply an arrangement of the album, Glass utilizes background melodies, hidden inner voices, and the intricate rhythms of Bowie’s work to build a completely new and virtuosic testament to their unlikely friendship. Here, each symphony movement side-by-side with live performances of the album tracks that inspired them, we get a unique chance to peek into the mind of the composer . . . and since we have everybody here on stage together, why not jam a little?
