Majors for Minors
Majors for Minors is an exciting way for educators to bring live music to their classrooms and school through an up close and personal interaction with our professional musicians. These hour-long programs can be linked to support any grade music curriculum and align with many of the Florida Department of Education Music Standards. The scope of the program can be customized to each school and may include a single musician to a small chamber orchestra.
Interactions with String, Brass, and Woodwind solos and ensembles familiarize students with different families of instruments, the various musical style periods (Baroque, Classical, etc.) and characteristics of each period, as well as introduce an array of musical concepts such as syncopation, tempo and dissonance. Programs such as “Dance Music Through the Centuries” include works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Joplin, and Gershwin among others.
Information about the program and educational materials will be sent to each school prior to the ensemble’s visit. The visit usually consists of an introduction to the instruments, a question & answer segment, and a 50-minute ensemble program for the entire group of students. A post-performance reflection and assessment survey will be sent to each participating school following the program.
