The Chevalier was Marie Antoinette’s music teacher. He is the first known classical composer of African descent, and will be the first composer you hear this Saturday evening. It is alleged that the Queen enjoyed playing with him publicly, and he was eventually fired because they got ‘too close’.

Arrive one hour early to hear the pre-concert lecture for an enlightening discussion about the life of “Black Mozart,” Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de St. Georges.

Tickets to Saturday’s Masterworks 1 concert are available on SWFLSO.org 🎫
